Types of Sources

Hevo integrates with multiple Sources. Based on their implementation, these are broadly categorized as:

• SaaS Sources

• Database and File System Sources

• Webhooks and REST API

SaaS Sources

SaaS Sources are classified based on the business purpose they serve or the way they are implemented or used. For example, Mixpanel and Stripe are both SaaS Sources, but they are categorized as Product Analytics and Finance & Accounting Analytics Sources, respectively. Some Sources serve multiple business purposes and are included in more than one category on the Hevo UI. For example, HubSpot can be considered as a Marketing Analytics Source as well as a Sales & Support Analytics Source.

The different SaaS Source categories include:

• Marketing Analytics: This category includes ad-based Sources such as Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and LinkedIn Ads, which provide conversion data and insights to drive business objectives, and Sources such as HubSpot, Marketo, and Mailchimp, which offer a marketing platform to engage with customers to provide them a better experience.

• Sales & Support Analytics: This category includes customer relationship management (CRM) applications and helpdesk solutions, which offer a platform to manage customer interactions, grow your business, and provide better customer service. Some examples are Salesforce, Zendesk, and Freshdesk.

• Product Analytics: This category includes Sources such as Amplitude Analytics, Mixpanel, and Pendo, which offer a platform to track user interaction with your product and take data-backed decisions, and E-commerce Sources, such as Shopify and PrestaShop (via MySQL), which offer a multi-channel commerce experience to grow your online business.

• Finance & Accounting Analytics: This category includes Sources that offer a platform to manage your accounting needs such as payments, billing requirements, and subscription management. For example, Stripe, Chargebee, and Recurly.

• Engineering Analytics: This category includes collaboration software Sources, such as Asana, GitHub, and Jira, which offer a platform to manage projects, track issues, and collaborate with your teams. It also includes streaming Sources, such as Kafka and Confluent Cloud, which provide a framework for storing, reading, and analyzing streaming data.

Database and File System Sources

This category includes:

• Database Sources: Hevo supports popular relational database Sources such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle, and non-relational database Sources such as Amazon DocumentDB, Elasticsearch, and MongoDB. Hevo supports both generic implementations and variants, such as Google Cloud or Amazon RDS-hosted instances.

• Data warehouse Sources: These are Sources that enable scalable analysis over vast amounts of data. Hevo supports the Amazon Redshift and Google BigQuery data warehouse Sources.

• File storage Sources: These Sources store data in files that are organized in folders. The folders are further arranged in a hierarchy of directories and sub-directories on a hard drive or a network storage device. Some of the file storage Sources that Hevo supports are Amazon S3, Google Drive, and Google Sheets.

Webhooks and REST API

Hevo supports ingesting data using webhooks from any Source that offers webhook connectivity, and from any Source that provides REST APIs using HTTP requests to GET, PUT, POST, or DELETE data. Webhooks trigger the movement of data from the Source to Hevo for loading as soon as it is generated.

You can fetch data from SaaS Sources that allow webhook-based ingestion via their webhooks or by connecting to the application. For example, you can ingest data from a Shopify Source either using the Shopify app or directly via the Shopify webhook.
